Pretty Nervous

Updated: Oct 30, 2023

Tweening in terms of age is one thing, but there is also another kind of transition that is very nerve racking for preteens, and that is transitioning to Middle School.

Change is difficult, but we all have to learn early in life that if there is something we can count on, it is that change is inevitable. As much as we cringe at the idea of stepping out of our comfort zone, change helps us grow; whether it is by learning from the mistakes we make as we adjust to a change, or whether we learn to accept that which we cannot control. All is part of growing up and that is a good thing. Learning the valuable skills along the way at this age, better prepares us to handle "adulting" in the future.

Nevertheless, change is stressful and it can sometimes lead to adopting bad habits to help cope with the feelings associated with anxiety or nervousness. Nail biting is a coping mechanism that tends to be developed in childhood. Nail biting can leave finger tips and nail beds looking misshapen and unsightly; however, the aesthetics are the least of the concerns that come with nail biting. The bacteria and pathogens that can be ingested while biting nails can make a person seriously ill. Overall a bad habit to develop. But some may find the habit a natural response to stress and difficult to break.

Knowing the risk may not be enough to deter a person from nail biting, and may require replacing or distracting from the behavior. I does require mindfulness and the willingness to stop. Occupying one's hands with a stress relief fidget can help distract nail biting by keeping the hands occupied on other activities. Glimmer Tween offers a slow rise foam squishy that will help to relieve stress. It can be removed from the pen to fully squish or clasped while using pen. Cute and functional.

Additionally, keeping a nice manicure may be an added deterrent in nail biting. This option requires a strong desire to keep nails looking their best. Taking care and feeling pride in keeping pretty hands is something that spikes in interest during tween years. Promoting the importance of keeping pretty hands may help avoid nail biting or deter the habit. It is not healthy to bite nails, as mentioned for health reasons, and especially not painted nails. Glimmer Tween's water based, oxygen and water permeable nail polishes are non-toxic, but that is not to say ingesting chipped nail polish is encouraged.

Keeping nails pretty and healthy, and using fidgets like squishy pens to reduce stress, may help in the effort to stop nail biting and also help keep your daughter from ingesting unwanted bacteria and disease causing micro organisms into her body. Allow Glimmer Tween to help her shine her brightest.
