I (hate/love) You So Much!

Updated: Jan 27

Ever notice how Negative energy has a greater impact than positive energy. Take for instance how often you think about that ONE nice comment anyone makes about your post. Sure, you look at it and it makes you smile and it has amazing value. Now think about how long you've allowed a negative comment to live Rent-Free in your mind? How many times did think about it and want to know more about the person who commented? Try to figure out their motive, the value of what the wrote, start questioning the validity of their words despite knowing that it wasn’t worth your energy in giving it a second thought? And yet, it impacts. It happens to the best of us. We are adults and we are (for the most part) well adjusted, logical and balanced. We are well past our hormonal tween/teen years where everything was over analyzed and impactful to the point we felt our whole life was over for the simplest things. But now imagine what that one negative comment does to an impressionable young mind. Think of the damage, think of the churning and self-doubt that it provokes. And believe me, the impact is real. Weather on social media or IRL, it doesn’t matter if you are young or old, It doesn’t matter if you are famous or not, It doesn’t even matter if you have an emotional callus where you’ve grown numb to these comments after receiving so many because you’ve been on social media for a while…it still stings. It's so important to talk to your kids about how much negativity they are receiving online. Help them open up about how it makes them feel. Have real conversations about it. Listen to them and encourage them to safeguard against letting the negativity in by not engaging with the online noise and focus on the positive.

And hey, I hope that you are one of the lucky ones out there who can't relate to this, but if you aren't, just know that it will happen and it's okay. The sooner you learn to accept that it's part of social media the better prepared you and your kiddo will be to deal with the impact. Learn that self-care includes mental health. Forgiveness is more beneficial for the person giving than for the person receiving. Releasing the harmful energy frees up room to let in all the good vibes and energy in the world. Focus on the good and release the tension. Some helpful ways to release tension is Journaling, Exercising, and Heat therapy. Glimmer Tween offers many self-care products with you in mind.
